Translation by Bhikkhuni Uppalavanna

I heard thus. At one time the Blessed One was living in Rajagaha on the bank of river Sappini.

When the night was waning, illuminating the whole of the bank of river Sappini, Brahma Sanankumàra approached the Blessed One, worshipped and stood on a side.

Standing, Brahma Sanankumàra said this stanza in the presence of the Blessed One:

"Relying on the lineage, warriors are the foremost among men,
endowed with knowledge and conduct, he is the foremost among gods and men."

Saying this, Brahma Sanankumàra waited for the approval of the Blessed One.

Then Brahma Sanankumàra knowing that the Teacher approves worshipped and circumambulated the Blessed One and disappeared from there.
